Cute Card Thursday.

On Cute Card Thursday challenge we were told.....

We would love to see your creations with a music or dance theme this week. Think instruments, song titles, dancing, musical notes etc.

Well this is what I came up with. The image is from Paper Nation and has been inked with Versafine Grey and painted with shimmery watercolours and water colour crayons.

The image has been layered onto paper from HOTP citrus pad with corners decorated with a X Cut punch. This has been layered onto lilac cardstock which has a piece of organza ribbon attached. The whole topper has been put onto a pre-embossed card from DCWV

52Q Challenge

Over on the Bubbly Funk forum a group of us have taken up the challenge from Emily Falonbridge to answer a question a week about yourself. Hence the 52Q title of the challenge. The idea is to answer the set question on a seperate card each week, many people use playing cards for this but mine are going to be a bit bigger as i'm using the computer to print out my backgrounds and answers.

These are my covers for the book I will make when they are all finally completed in a years time. I covered thick card and punched holes so that the whole thing can be bound using my Bind it All when the time comes.

The papers are from Hot of the Press Citrus pack, the spotty ribbon is from Ribbon Oasis. The lace, letter tiles and cream plaque are from Kaz in the secret advent thingy. I used fabric flowers from my stash and the brad is a tiny glittered one from Papermania. The letter and numbers are stamped and embossed in purple on pale purple card and painted with shimmery watercolour paints.

It's strange how purple and lime green have become my favourite colours, when Sallie suggested them for her bedroom about 9 years ago I thought it a very odd combination. I suppose after living with it for so many years it grew on me.

Christmas Tree

This is a stamp from Judikins entitled Living Christmas Tree.
I stamped it onto white card with Grey Versafine ink and coloured it with watercolour pencils and shimmery watercolour paints before cutting all round the image. It was layered onto white card, embossed with the Cuttlebug snowflake folder.
The blue and silver one has been layered onto holographic card while the pink and gold one is on vellum.
I'n not sure yet whether or not they need a greeting at the side or to leave it as it is. Any suggestions?

40th birthday

It's my brother in laws birthday 40th Birthday next week so I needed something special for his card.

As he is in the Fire Service and is also a part-time fire fighter with his local Station this Fireman stamp from Paper Nation was just the thing for him.
I coloured it with a combination of watercolour pencils and paints and layered it up onto tag shapes of patterned vellum, white card, shiny red card and torn mulberry paper to give a hot fiery look to it. The layers are all held together with a small round brad. The sentiment is a gold peel-off.

The dark blue A4 cardstock has been folded twice to give an overall DL size.

Cute Card Thursday

This week the theme is 'The two of us'
We need to use two of something on our card, it could be 2 people, 2 animals or 1 of each.

This week Nikki from Dewdrop Craftz has very kindly donated a gorgeous stamp. Do pop into the shop and check out the other fantastic stamps they have to offer!

I've not done one of these challenges for a little while now but just happened to have this card ready made for another challenge but as it has not been shown on my blog yet here it is.

The image is Car Couple from Paper Nation, it has been stamped in grey versafine ink and coloured using polychromos for the couple and shimmery watercolour paints for the car. It was stamped onto white card and layered onto a piece of grey textured card.

The main card is a ready embossed one from DCWV called Dragonflower.

The card was originally made for the Think Pink Challenge over on the Bubbly Funk Forum. Do check this out as it is for a really good cause and lots of us on the forum are making things for it.

Anniversary cards

I've been asked by a work friend of my husband to do an Anniversary card for his wife. These are 2 ideas that I have come up with at the moment for him to look at.
This one is on cream card and has the word 'love' randomly stamped all over it in grey Versafine ink. The hearts have been stamped onto smooth cream card and cut out. Both have a seed bead embellishment stitched onto them. The plaque at the bottom is also stamped onto cream card. All the stamps are from the With Love From Me to You Unmounted Rubber Stamp Theme Plate from Elusive Images and are inked with pads from the Brilliance range.
This 2nd one is on white hammered card and uses stamps by Cuddly Buddly and the border from the stamp used for the plaque on the previous card. The images have been stamped onto cream card with grey versafine ink and coloured using shimmery watercolour paints. The sentiment is a gold peel-off.

Cute card Thursday

On Cute Card Thursday we were told........

This week we have another fabulous sponsor, Maggie at Banyan Crafts.

Maggie is donating a pack of gorgeous tear shaped cards with envelopes, there are 20 cards in the pack!

To be in with a chance of winning these next week all you have to do is create a card without using patterned paper.

I have had this angel type stamp for quite some time now but have not used her before. It is from Anita's stamps but does not appear to have a name. I stamped her onto white card with Versafine ink in grey and coloured her using shimmery watercolour paints.
She is layered up onto a piece of peach cardstock which has been embossed using the D'vine Swirls folder from Cuttlebug. This has been layered onto a piece of white card leaving just a small border and finally onto a pale pink card. All layers have had the corners rounded off with a punch.

May swaps

I've had my swaps for May back from Lynn today. On the Stamping Mad forum we swap 2 ATCs and 2 Moos each month. I don't post pictures of what i've done until I know these have been received by the other people in the swap. Most people seemed to get theirs yesterday so I think i'm safe in showing now.

The theme for the ATC was Distressed, something i've not tried before and i'm not sure I will again as I think mine look positively miserable. For the background I used my embossed loo roll paper with shimmery watercolour paint. Onto this I layered torn mulberry paper and a scrap of card which I put through the Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes folder. I used card from the Neutrals stack by DCWV and sanded it afterwards to show the white core. A piece of ribbon was held down by a brad which had been sanded.

Now my Moos are a different thing entirely and I love them. The theme was Pink & Purple.
I brushed the background card with a Brilliance inkpad to give a soft look. I then used my Cuttlebug Paisley die and cut paint charts from Dulux. I layered these by swapping the cut out bits for the contrasting colour. The spaces that were too small to fit the pieces back in were filled with glitter glue but it doesn't show up on the pic.

ATC & Moo swaps

Last month the theme on the Stamping Mad forum swap was to make your own background paper.

You've all seen my efforts with the baby wipes which is what I used, now that we have the swaps back I can show what I did with them. I simply wrapped a piece of the fabric around my card and backed it with another card to hide the workings. Then I sewed a thread of seed beads and a sequin flower onto them as an embellishment but decided that's all that was needed. We only swap 2 but I have learned to make a 3rd for myself so that I have a record of them and also because the ATC holders take 3 cards in a row.

Unfortunately the shimmer in the paint doesn't show up too well on this scan.

The theme of the Moo swap was floral.

I used shimmer watercolour paints to cover the
background and then various stamps from See D's morsels to add flowers and the pot with versa colour inkpads. I added a little extra to each one of them - a worm, leaf and butterfly.
Again I did 3 and swapped only 2 of them.

Baby Wipes.

This past few weeks I have trying to make my own backgrounds for the ATC swap on the Stamping Mad forum.
Firstly I used my shimmery watercolour paints on pieces of embossed, patterned loo roll. I did 4 different colour ways. I used a large paintbrush with lots of water and after loading plenty of colour onto the brush just rested my brush on the surface and let the very watery paint spread into the paper. I also let the paint drip from the brush. To finish off I then gave them a blast with the heat gun to help set the colours and dry them out a bit quicker. They were left to dry out completely overnight.

I tried the same effect with various baby wipes but the ones I am most pleased with were on fabric baby wipes as they soaked up the paint better and have an interesting texture.

These have allowed the paint to spread really well and the colours have mingled nicely. Again I used the heat gun to help dry them out but left them to finish drying on their own as they were quite moist still.

There are 2 problems as I see it to using this type of wipe. The first being that they need to be handled quite carefully so as not to stretch the fabric and the second is that the folds that were originally in them are not removed by ironing, therefore they can only be used on small projects.
However in this case as they are intended to be used on ATCs which are only small in size I may be able to work with one section of the wipe and avoid the folds.

As I said I used shimmery watercolour paints which when the brush was rested on the surface of the fabric left a silver sheen, this however does not show up on the scan.

I will post pictures of the finished cards as soon as I have my swaps back. The subject of them was to create our own backgrounds.
